Apparel & Footwear Working Group III - Roundtable
At the start of 2024, over 400 Apparel and Footwear companies were committed to Science-Based Targets - yet approximately one third have set Scope 3 targets. With the production of Apparel being responsible for 1.8% of global carbon emissions, and raw materials constituting as much as two-thirds of a brand’s climate impact, it is imperative for the sector to step up its efforts and reduce its Scope 3 emissions. There will be no net zero without Scope 3 action.
The complex nature of the Apparel & Footwear supply chains, with a significant portion of emissions belonging to Scope 3, makes the implementation of decarbonisation interventions, accounting, reporting, and claiming a challenge for organisations in the sector. How can they work with a lack of traceability? How can they ensure credible data? How can mitigation claims be allocated to the different value chain stakeholders?
In 2023, the Value Chain Initiative (VCI) hosted the second edition of the Apparel & Footwear Working Group, where technical experts worked with leading brands such as lululemon, Bestseller and H&M, and many others, to explore solutions to Scope 3 challenges the sector is facing.
Ahead of the launch of the new Working Group in March 2024, join us as we continue to explore solutions to removing barriers and foster collective action to address and account for Scope 3 emissions in the context of Apparel and Footwear supply chains.
